Dead While Alive

Gary Dockery, like a 20th-century Rip Van Winkle, slept in a coma for 71/2 years. He was a police officer who had been shot in the head while on duty. Unconscious and unable to communicate, he was dead to the world.

Humbled

A Texas farmer was talking with a farmer from Oklahoma. "How big is your farm?" asked the Texan.

Who Meets Their Needs?

Parents are often disturbed to find their children spending valuable time and hard-earned money on things that contradict biblical principles. For example, it can be distressing to discover that young people devote hours listening to music with ungodly lyrics.

The Work Of Prayer

I must admit that I have found prayer strenuous, boring, and confusing at times. Occasionally I have gotten ahold of prayer, only to discover that I couldn't sustain the grip. I've learned that real prayer can be tough, hard business.

Do You Hear A Whistle?

My car has a wonderful feature. Whenever I forget to turn off the headlights, a shrill warning goes off the minute I open the door. I don't like its jarring sound, but I like what it saves me from—a dead battery.

Why Love Gets Tough

James McConkey was a well- known Bible teacher in the early 20th century. While traveling through Europe, he went on a hike with a group of tourists in the awe-inspiring Swiss Alps.
